The college football season approaches. For U.S. it will officially begin on August 26 with the Stanford-Rice game in Sydney at Allianz Stadium (it will be Aug. 27 in Australia). So the preseason college teams rankings are already out, mainly based on the NFL draft results, spring practice performance and last season achievements. The official polls will be available in August, updated each week during the season, and now we can only predict how they will look like.

Here are the top 25 college teams according to the Athlon’s Sports rankings (on June 14).

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama was at the head of the rankings throughout the entire season of 2016. Despite its loss to Clemson in the national title game, Crimson Tide has all the chances to enter the coming season among the leaders. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is back for his sophomore season, as well as Damien Harris, Bo Scarbrough and Joshua Jacobs. Each of them broke the 500-rushing yard mark in 2016.

Crimson Tide’s first match is on the 2d of Sept. in a face off with Florida State. Games with Fresno State (Sept. 9) and Colorado State (Sept. 16) are next.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes

Buckeyes have new coordinator Kevin Wilson. Defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Jerome Baker return for the 2017 season. Bosa gained an 84.1 overall grade as a true freshman, Backer - 86.5 as a true sophomore last season. As for newcomers, running back Demario McCall and receiver Johnnie Dixon has joined the Ohio State team.

They kick off the season with a match against Indiana on Aug. 31, and then host Oklahoma on Sept. 9.

3. Florida State Seminoles

Florida state performed incredibly during bowl season. Safety Derwin James is back after a knee injury, which made him miss almost all 2016 season. James is one of the best defenders currently, he scored 91.1 overall grade as a true freshman before an injury knocked him down. So if Seminoles are strong with the offense, there are all chances they’ll be back to the college football top.

The Seminoles have a challenging beginning of the season - their face off with Alabama happens on Sept. 2. They host Miami and NC State and have a matchup against Clemson on the Nov. 11.
