Me and my 10 year old sister went in with my mom who went unconscious and ended up having a brain bleed. They gave up and told us she was gonna die. They didn’t even tell us to hope for the best, but we have to prepare for the worst. They said “your moms not died now but will be” We ended up moving her and she’s alive and leaving her best life with no complications. She’s in rehab and will be home and at work in 2 weeks!

I had not visited Truman medical Center West since 1997. Then it was really chaotic. I went in to the ER seeking treatment for an eye injury I received leaving work. I arrived about 2:30 p.m. i was told to take a seat someone would see me shortly. After 4 hours, I was called. I was asked my name why I was there and given a questioraire. When I returned to the desk, a nurse took my paperwork and again told me to wait. I was still waiting at 2 a.m. the next morning. I finally took a taxi home and had my daughter drive me to another hospital. I never even say down, I was treated while my daughter gave the info needed. I was in and out in 1 hr and 23 mns. While I was totally ignored at Truman West, They did not hesitate to bill me for no-service. But this time around I was pleasantly surprised at the way service have and the staff have improved😀

I have a few things to say about this Hospital. I dont like going to Hospital Hill ER they are so damn slow. Everytime I have went, I have waited at least minimum 5 hours. And then when you get in the back its still slow. That is way too long, it is way too long for Emergency care. Over at Truman Behavioral Health, Behavioral Health is a great place for Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Here is the problem with this, They have plenty of Therapists, and Casemanagers and Schedulers etc. They do not have enough regular Psychiatrists for clients that need a permanent doctor. They need to get rid of all the Resident Doctors and get all permanent regular Psychiatrists in the TMC-BH department. YOU all need more psychiatrists because of the volume of staff you have versus the volume of clients that you have at TMC-BH, you dont have enough psychiatrists for everyone. TMC YOU ALL NEED HELP!!!!!! Behavioral Health needs more regular permanent psychiatrists for clients that have severe trauma. So those clients can get the appropriate help they need.

So far this has been a great hospital. We are going for prenatal care, and will likely have the delivery here also. Sometimes they are running behind, but as far as the staff, they are nice and respectful. I've never been here for ER situations, but since this is a state funded trauma center, I probably wouldn't go here unless it was absolutely necessary. I imagine that they have someone in the ER that just got shot or stabbed, and whatever I needed help with would be able to wait.If you're looking for an ER for something non-life threatening, I would suggest another hospital, North KC, Research, etc.
