Graduation Rate

Southern Methodist University graduation rate is above the national average.

78% of full-time students enrolled for the first time to Southern Methodist University completed the education program and got a degree in 150 percent of the expected time of completion.

The graduation rate value includes only programs that were completed less than six years for four-year degrees or less than three years for two-year degrees.

Graduation rate is the percentage of institution’s new-entering, first-time, first-year undergraduate students who complete their program within 150% of the published time for the program. Graduation rate excludes a huge number of students. This index doesn’t take into account students of nontraditional enrollments - part-time students, students who enroll mid-year, and who transfer from one institution to another. So graduation rate alone can create a misleading picture. Completion rate in the form of total number of students receiving any types of awards/degrees creates a complete picture. Combining this data with graduation rate is a better way to compare educational institutions.

Such a beautiful campus! I can't wait to see it in spring time!

Nice school and great connections with amazing resources. Too expensive for me to attend here though. So many other great schools for cheaper prices across the globe than SMU Nation! Good luck to y’all!

Overall Rating:

Southern Methodist University, also known as SMU, is located in Dallas, Texas and is currently one of the top three universities in Texas. Dedman College is the largest college at SMU and is where most classes take place throughout the day. Established in 1911, SMU is known for its ties to the family of the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush. His wife, former First Lady Laura Bush, attended SMU and lived in Snider Hall during her studies. The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum honoring the 43rd President is located on the SMU campus. My friend Mizanur Rahman's son is also goes to this university. He stays in common name Armstrong Commons and dines in Arnold Dining Hall.

Smu is the best, awesome school, really pretty campus, professors are good, awesome experience, there’s a reason we are number 2 in Texas, (There are about 8 colleges in Texas!)

Source of the review: Google Places, Google Maps™

Overall Rating:

SMU has a beautiful campus, and students here have the opportunity to earn fairly decent jobs. BUT, the school and its administration does not care about it's current students at all. They are entirely focused on the next batch of paying students, while neglecting the needs of the current students. No matter what you do if you end up attending school here, DO NOT listen to the academic advisers. They commonly mislead students into taking additional coursework they do not need in order to extend their time at SMU and earn more money. They also do not offer the classes needed to finish the program you're in each semester, but will not advise you to take them while you can. Instead, they advise you to take other classes. Additionally, the financial office is consistently incompetent, and often "accidentally" charge students with misc fee's, and then make you argue for months to repeal them. The whole point of attending a private school is smaller class sizes and an administration that cares about the individual students. The administration would rather water the grass than hire a decent professor who actually knows what they're talking about (I often have to correct my professors based on what I was taught in the real finance world (at JP Morgan))
