I'm not a student at SIUC, however after attending their Fall Open House, I can safely say that may soon be the case! Beautiful campus with an atmosphere that would make it feel like a home away from home. Their Journalism and Honors programs seem very nice, and although tuition seems a little high, I think scholarships could even that out. I enjoyed my time!

A photo that I made of the Waterfall Resort near Ketchikan, Alaska. The resort is consider to be the finest resort in the World for catching salmon. Larry G. Brown accompanied me to Waterfall twice and agrees that Waterfall is superior for catching Coho salmon! Larry is also a graduate of Southern Illinois University.

Administration and housing are next to useless. There are a few good people in this institution, and I wish them well. But the majority of the University cares about nothing more than money. The students here are generally good people, there are a few teachers here who feed their classes lies. When those teachers are confronted they blame it on the students. Books are outrageously priced. The teachers tell us they are REQUIRED for classes, but we often never even open them. University housing dishes out charges for damaged dorm rooms when nothing was damaged. Parking division issues parking tickets on weekends (when students can park ANYWHERE on campus, except restricted areas) because they know most students won't contest the tickets. Easy money for them. Maintenance is obnoxious and are constantly being told different things by their higher ups. No one can get a clear answer. The dining have extremely limited options. Both dining halls serve soggy and bland food. The vegan/vegetarian options are generally disgusting and there are is ONE vegan option to choose from at any point in time. The staff allow the food to sit out under the heating lamps too long, so the food becomes dry and stiff. Many times the food is grossly overcooked. Nothing can be taken out of the dining halls, even though we pay an outrageous amount of money for our meal plans. Dining hall closes way too early and opens way too late 2 days a week. All in all, I would NOT recommend enrolling here.

Many of the classes here require that you pay for a program in order to gain access to the homework. These required assignments make up a good portion of the grade. The costs of books here are outrageous. Scenery is beautiful. But that does not make up for the outrageous price of books and required materials. They want you to pay for a program in order to succeed in your classes.
