Graduation Rate

Loading...
51%
BELOW AVERAGE

Louisiana Tech University graduation rate is below the national average.

51% of full-time students enrolled for the first time to Louisiana Tech University completed the education program and got a degree in 150 percent of the expected time of completion.

The graduation rate value includes only programs that were completed less than six years for four-year degrees or less than three years for two-year degrees.

Graduation rate is the percentage of institution’s new-entering, first-time, first-year undergraduate students who complete their program within 150% of the published time for the program. Graduation rate excludes an extensive number of students. This index doesn’t consider students of nontraditional enrollments - part-time students, students who enroll mid-year, and who transfer from one institution to another. So graduation rate alone can create a misleading picture. Completion rate in the form of total number of students receiving any types of awards/degrees creates a complete picture. Combining this data with graduation rate is a better way to compare educational institutions.

One of the best kept secrets in the South. Excellent Engineering school. Close enough to New Orleans to spend weekends on Gulf of Mexico or hunting and fishing in Arkansas. Drive to Shreveport for fun. Small town advantages of Ruston Louisiana.

Overall Rating:

I taught there for about 28 years. For most of that time I thought it was a good school where a student could get a good undergraduate education, and depending on the concentration a pretty good Master's degree. Around 2000 Tech, at the insistence of the Governor, tech started trying to develop PhD programs. They have never had the money, personnel, or infrastructure to do this. In order to get the needed enrollment they prohibited many very good (and profitable) masters degree programs from being taught. The PhD programs offered were niche programs that could not attract students or faculty. Tech could not offer mainline programs because they would be blocked from doing so by LSU, the state University. In the last 10 years or so the numbers of faculty in many of the engineering programs have dropped to dangerously low levels. In order cover this up Tech will list administrators, adjuncts, and graduate students as full time faculty. The result is very weak programs where many courses listed in the catalog are rarely if ever taught. A few years back Tech has hired a "public relations director" as the new head of it "news service". Be very careful if you are thinking about going or sending your children here, be sure you get what you pay for.
