Graduation rate is the percentage of institution’s new-entering, first-time, first-year undergraduate students who complete their program within 150% of the published time for the program. Graduation rate excludes a huge number of students. This index doesn’t take into consideration students of nontraditional enrollments - part-time students, students who enroll mid-year, and who transfer from one institution to another. So graduation rate alone can create a misleading perception. Completion rate in the form of total number of students receiving any types of awards/degrees creates a complete picture. Combining this data with graduation rate is a better way to compare institutions.
The student-to-faculty ratio at Lamar State College-Port Arthur is 17:1, that means that for every 17 students the institution has one professor, lecturer or specialist with a degree in education. Lower student-to-faculty ratio is better - it means that professors can dedicate more time and attention to each student.

I been having to much Missed communication on this school with their staff on admission office. One day I was trying to get my transcrip she dint let get one. Until week later. Have had nothing but issues with the financial aid offices. Every single person that works there has an attitude. When I attempted to ask questions I was treated like I was dumb and told to go look them up in a book. As a financial aid counselor your job is to answer any questions I have. My fafsa has taken over two weeks to process. Everytime I go to talk to a counselor I wait about an hour while they sit around eating chips and “blueberry pie”. (This is an actual experience I’ve had there) Upon going to the Dean, I was told this behavior is okay because “they work long hours”. My solution to this problem would be to stop eating snacks all day and maybe to work, as my tuition pays for their salary. Once again, this is a common problem. Every single time I have gone into the financial aid office I have been belittled.Source of the review: Google Places, Google Maps™
The Financial Aid office is a joke, they all hate their job and you can tell. They made me dread everything about the school so I decided to go to LIT and it is SO MUCH BETTER. AND CHEAPER.Source of the review: Google Places, Google Maps™
The staff in the financial office are very lacksey dasey. They really don't like picking up the phone on that third floor. I went up there to turn in some paper work and I heard a lady from the admissions office saying "who wants to talk to this lady that calling on the phone". Basically saying that they don't wanna talk and that's your job to answer questions in that area. It takes so long for financial to process, and it's due to the people in the office. If you don't go up there yourself, you'll get the round-around. However, I love the atmosphere of the college and the classes.Source of the review: Google Places, Google Maps™
