Graduation Rate

Harris-Stowe State University graduation rate is below the national average.

9% of full-time students enrolled for the first time to Harris-Stowe State University completed the education program and got a degree in 150 percent of the expected time of completion.

The graduation rate value includes only programs that were completed less than six years for four-year degrees or less than three years for two-year degrees.

Graduation rate is the percentage of institution’s new-entering, first-time, first-year undergraduate students who complete their program within 150% of the published time for the program. Graduation rate excludes an extensive number of students. This index doesn’t take into consideration students of nontraditional enrollments - part-time students, students who enroll mid-year, and who transfer from one institution to another. So graduation rate alone can create a misleading picture. Completion rate in the form of total number of students receiving any types of awards/degrees creates a complete picture. Combining this data with graduation rate is a better way to compare schools.

I wish I would have attended a different university. Unfortunately, this administration DOES NOT care for their students. They make us wait 2-3 months just to receive OUR refund money which students use mainly to pay their bills and make sure they’re able to make it school. NO OTHER UNIVERSITY IN MISSOURI DOES THIS BUT HARRIS STOWE. They have an emergency assistance program but they wait 1-2 months just to let you know whether they’re going to assist you or not. The administration acts as if they’re just there for a paycheck rather than assisting students. If you’re not a known student administrators are reluctant to help you. Activity fees are included in the tuition BUT THEY STILL CHARGE STUDENTS FOR THE ACTIVITIES ON CAMPUS. If you wanted to save $300-400 on books by using Cheggs or another company you can’t because they automatically charge you the cost of books in your tuition which should be a decision that students make. I could go on and on about this school.

Overall Rating:

this place is horrible .security does nothing if you report something and choice to help students they became friends with . i was attacked by another student and i was the one suspended from the university while the attacker was able to walk free and still go which in there terms says he should be kicked out permanently while i fought the suspension. Also a good majority of the teachers only see you as a number i had a teacher who would let class out within 5 to 10 minutes when it was a hour and 40 minute class and another that refused to make sure everyone understood the problems and projects. if you go only go for a semester and don`t expect to have a happy college experience.

I had a great experience at Harris Stowe. I received a first class education, created solid relationships and I even got to play baseball. Some of the best years of my life. It's a small school with a hands on approach. Diversity was celebrated for all students and I'm proud to say I was a Hornet! Good school at a bargain price.

Harris-Stowe is the school that I graduated from and I love it. This school is not a racist school. I have been employed with Harris-Stowe since graduating and I seem to gain a great rapport with students, faculty and staff. I would encourage everyone to give this HBCU a try. Come and see for yourself!!
