Graduation Rate

Chowan University graduation rate is below the national average.

25% of full-time students enrolled for the first time to Chowan University completed the education program and got a degree in 150 percent of the expected time of completion.

The graduation rate value includes only programs that were completed less than six years for four-year degrees or less than three years for two-year degrees.

Graduation rate is the percentage of institution’s new-entering, first-time, first-year undergraduate students who complete their program within 150% of the published time for the program. Graduation rate excludes an extensive number of students. This indicator doesn’t take into account students of nontraditional enrollments - part-time students, students who enroll mid-year, and who transfer from one institution to another. So graduation rate alone can create a misleading perception. Completion rate in the form of total number of students receiving any types of awards/degrees creates a complete picture. Combining this data with graduation rate is a better way to compare schools.

My daughter graduated Summa Cum Laude this past May with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. She had the best experience being a student at Chowan University . All her instructors and professors were encouraging, supportive and nurturing.

Overall Rating:

This school promised to help and quise me throughout my troubles and they completely turned their backs on me when I needed them the most. This is a TERRIBLE school and I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. It’s in the middle of no where with no cell reception unless you have Verizon and only three places to get food. You will NOT enjoy your time here .

Overall Rating:

Chowan College allowed me to get my academic life in order after playing around in high school for a four year period. The professors there cared about their students and gave you the extra time needed to understand their curriculum. I went on to Elon College with success as well as Shenandoah University to gain my Masters in Education. Chowan laid that foundation that I did not take serious in high school at that time period in my life. I am now a teacher of 31 years and still counting in the Page County public school system in Virginia. My family has gained from me reaching out Chowan and getting the education I gained there. Give it a chance it may change your life as it did mine.

Overall Rating:

I recently graduated from Chowan University. My four years were life changing. Chowan gives students average students a chance to attend a University despite having grades or test scores that might hinder them at other universities. Rather than focus on looking amazing on paper, Chowan focuses on giving students a chance at a fresh start both academically and spiritually. I was that average student who was denied by other schools, but Chowan gave me a chance to have a new beginning. I thrived at Chowan academically graduating among other at the top of my class, and socially having been involved in more organizations than I can count. Chowan is what you make it. If you're not going to be involved or focus academically, then it's probably not the place for you. If you want a big name school, it's not the place for you. If you care more about it being in a city where there are malls and buses, then it's not the place for you. BUTTTTT If you want a fresh start surrounded by faculty and staff who are going to be there for you and make sure that you leave the absolute best version of yourself, then this is the place for you. If you want to focus on your studies but not have to sacrifice a social life and extra curricular activities, then this is the place for you. If you want to be on a campus that's diverse and changes every year, this is the place. Chowan is not ranked the #1 fastest growing University in NC for no reason. It's changing and growing every day. It gets better every year. If you don't believe me, then see it for yourself.
